Danny’s the champion of seafood careers: Ops director’s role in insight campaign

Grimsby Fish Market’s operations director is the focus of a short film produced to help promote the many opportunities the sector offers to people living in the area.

Danny Payne, who is regularly behind the camera as the daily fish auction is monitored, switches sides of the lens for the piece, commissioned by Made Great in Grimsby and promoted by North East Lincolnshire Council.

It shines a light on the £2 billion industry Grimsby sits at the heart of as the gateway to the UK market, with more than 5,000 people employed across more than 50 sites, supporting a further 10,000 roles in the wider supply chain.

Danny explains how no two days are the same on the market he first set foot on with his Dad 18 years ago. He describes the sector as “unpredictable”, with early mornings, fast decisions and a real sense of atmosphere.

“It’s enjoyable,” he said. “You feel like you’re part of what makes Grimsby great.”

He is joined by Leah Wright of Alfred Enderby, Jaque Berridge of New England Seafood, Sophie King of Kevin Stansfield, Martina O’Connor of Northcoast Seafoods.

Made Great in Grimsby is a seafoodindustryled partnership focused on celebrating what the area already does well, while raising awareness of career opportunities.

Working closely with businesses, schools and training providers, it helps connect education with real local jobs, showing young people that they don’t have to leave the area to find skilled, wellpaid and fulfilling careers.

As part of the wider Seafood Grimsby & Humber Alliance, MGIG provides a shared voice for the sector and supports its longterm success. It champions Grimsby – not just as a historic fishing town, but as a forwardlooking centre of excellence for seafood.
